Art Therapy
What is Art Therapy?
Discover Support and Expression with Art Therapy
Sometimes words aren’t enough to fully express what’s going on inside. Art therapy offers a compassionate and creative path to healing — using the artistic process to help you explore feelings, heal trauma, reduce stress, and gain deeper self‑understanding. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, or simply seeking emotional balance, art therapy provides a supportive space to express yourself at your own pace.
What Art Therapy Is
Art therapy is a mental health profession that combines art‑making, the creative process, and psychological theory within a safe, therapeutic relationship. As a board-certified registered art therapist, I can help guide your creative expression in ways that promote insight, resilience, and well‑being. You can learn more about the core principles of art therapy from the American Art Therapy Association here.
How Art Therapy Works
In sessions, you’ll use art materials and creative processes to explore emotions, process experiences, and gain personal insights — all without pressure to “be artistic.” The art itself becomes a bridge to thoughts and feelings that might otherwise be hard to access through words alone, allowing for healing and self‑discovery in a gentle, embodied way.
Whether you’re new to therapy or have tried other approaches, art therapy meets you where you are — with warmth, curiosity, and respect for your individual experience.
